The Perfect Quiche
My take on cooking is that recipes should be simple. I don’t want to look at a recipe that has twenty different ingredients (unless I’m using spices) because most of the time I don’t want to look at a recipe at all. I like to open my fridge and go on a creative journey with the produce that’s available to me. However - not everyone likes to cook like that which is perfectly fine and why I’m writing this blog post!
One of the reasons I love making quiche is because the possibilities are endless. It’s the same reason I love making (and eating lots and lots of…) pizza. You can transform a quiche into any flavour profile and it never gets boring.
The key to making a great meal is purchasing good quality ingredients. Spend your money where you want but I will be spending mine on local produce and high quality olive oil. I don’t need the newest iPhone, I need a yummy pasta in my tummy.
So, in the case of making a great quiche you will need some great eggs. There are plenty of places you can buy fresh eggs that don’t look like a highlighter pen. Putting in the effort and extra dollars for a dozen pristine eggs will make these quiche taste off the chart.
I decided to make a broccoli and cheddar quiche because it is my number one choice when given, and a mushroom feta walnut quiche because those were the leftover ingredients in my fridge from a pasta dish I made the night prior.
This recipe will make 2 delicious quiche.
Steps:
Beat your eggs but with respect and gratitude. Don’t take out your anger on your eggs. Take a boxing class Rocky.
Add your cream to your mixture and stir until combined.
S & P that bad bitch and set aside.
Chop your broccoli into bite size pieces and roast in the oven with your mushroom for 10 minutes (add the walnuts at the final two minute to get them noice and toasty). Make sure to add oil and S&P to these as well.
Time to assemble your quiche. In one of your shells add your broccoli and grate some cheddar over top. Pour in half of your egg mixture and set aside.
Take your second shell and add your mushrooms, feta and walnuts to the bottom of the shell. Add the remainder of the egg mixture to your shell.
Now at this point your oven should be pre-heated to 350 degrees. I probably should have stated that as step number one but this is my first blog post and everybody makes mistakes.
Bake your quiche for 40 minutes (you can broil the top for 2 minutes at the end if they’re not golden brown)
Cool quiche for at least 20 minutes before cutting.
Eat a slice each of your delicious quiche.
